Last week we had an update to a very handy tool, OpenAdvocate’s WriteClearly 3.0 has been release.

The Plain Writing Act of 2010 requires federal agencies work to making government communications be accessible to the general public. It’s estimated that the average reading level is is at the 8th grade level, and to be inclusive 6th grade is a better target. This is especially important for clients who speak english as a second language and struggle with more complex texts.

WrtieClearly is a web tool that will take a look at your content and suggest ways to make it more accessible. This new version checks a few new things that can trip up readers and can now pick out complex words and suggest simpler alternatives
